How to Search

Browse by School/Department
Each school name is a link to a list of the departments within that school which are offering courses in the specified term. If a department offers courses under more than one mnemonic, the department name links to a list of all courses offered by that department, while the mnemonic links directly to that specific mnemonic.

Browse by Course Mnemonic
The alphabet buttons are links to lists of the course mnemonics being offered in the specified term, sorted by school. Each mnemonic in turn is a link to the course listings for that mnemonic.

Go Directly to a Course
The search form will take you directly to a particular menmonic/number combination, if that course is offered in the specified term. This search requires a mnemonic and a course number; use the alphabet buttons or school browse to view all courses for a mnemonic.

Detailed Search
The "Search" button at the top of each course offering page links to a search page where you can search using detailed criteria, including instructor name, credit range, meeting time/day, and College area requirements.

Explanation of Search Results

At the top of each results page are the date and time of the last update of course data. Please note that availability of space can change by the time you attempt to add a course on ISIS.

A grayed out course line indicates a closed course - either all available seats are taken or the course has been cancelled.

Dependent courses, which are displayed slightly indented, are labs or discussion sections which must be taken concurrently with the primary course listed immediately above.

DEPARTMENTAL WEBSITE - home page for the department offering the course

SCHED - Schedule Number - the five-digit number you enter into ISIS to add the course

SECT - Section - section number of the course

CRD - Credits - number of credits for which the course is offered. If this is listed as a range of credits (e.g., 1.0-12.0), ISIS will require you to enter the number of credits for which you wish to take the course.

TIME - time of day the course meets, using a 24-hour clock (e.g, 1300 is 1:00 P.M. and 1800 is 6:00 P.M.)

DAY - days of week when the course meets:

LOCATION - where the course meets; codes are translated in the list of Building Abbreviations

INSTRUCTOR - the professor(s) assigned to the course. Adding an Independent Instruction or Thesis Dissertation course requires an instructor number. The instructor name itself links to directory information on that instructor.

ENROLL - Authorized/Actual Enrollment - the number of students authorized to enroll in the course, and the number actually in the course as of the most recent update of data.(i.e. 20/15). Courses that have a waitlist will display the number of students authorized to enroll in the course, but instead of the actual enrollment, "WL" for Waitlist (i.e. 20/WL).

GRADE - Grading Method - for courses marked O or G, a letter grade is assumed unless you specify otherwise:

Only those courses with a grading method of O or P can be taken on a credit/no credit basis, unless prohibited by your school of enrollment. All courses except those with a grading method of N or Y can be taken for an audit, unless prohibited by your school of enrollment. To select a different grading option, indicate the option at the time of the add. Grading option can be changed through your school's add deadline.

INST TYPE - Instruction Type

COURSE MNEMONIC/NUMBER - links to official description of the course

COURSE WEB PAGE - when indicated by the computer icon, links to the web page created by the instructor for that section

COURSE RESTRICTIONS - restrictions on who is allowed to enroll for the class. If you do not meet the restrictions or the course is marked "Instructor Permission", you can add only with a Course Action form signed by the instructor.

COLLEGE AREA REQUIREMENTS - courses which meet the Historical Studies requirement, the Non-Western Perspectives requirement, or the Second Writing requirement for students in the College of Arts and Sciences. All courses in the Department of History satisfy the Historical Studies requirement.
